Deep within the cover of the thicket, hidden amongst the evergreens - somewhere, is a tribe of hunters. So keen to the sounds and smells of the forest, that they knew you were coming long before you got there. They hunt silently with arrows as to not disrupt this sacred place. They are known as the Woodland Tribe. And every tribe has a Shaman...

A vintage brass ring that is 3" in diameter carefully hand-wrapped with beautiful vintage teal tapestry fabric cradles a 6 1/4" long deer antler tine by way of jute twine.
I drilled holes in either end of the antler to accept rustic brass wire.
On one side, chain fringe carries genuine wood twig beads, real pine cones, a quartz crystal point, and black hex glass. The other side has similar chain fringe which carries a gorgeous golden-orange Citrine chunk, and a Jasper arrowhead pendant.
Sitting center stage & stationed just below the tapestry ring, is a lovely doubled twined deer antler section.

A section of jute twine up top for hanging anywhere!

Front the top of the tapestry ring to the longest chain fringe (ont he left side) this Medicine circle is 12" long.

The handle of this basket is a naturally shed mule deer antler. The basket measures 10" tall by 12" wide and 10" deep. Woven of sea grass, kudzu, round and flat rattan reed, baby sea grass and palm inflorescence (stems), this basket would look great filled with pine cones and sitting on a hearth. There are natural tan rock beads on the basket between the tines in the front. The extra close spokes in this basket give it a beautiful shape.

The original painting is a mixed media on a lyon gesso.
I used some gifts of nature in this painting.
These organic elements are rubbed BODHI leaves (leaves of enlightenment) that form petals on the red, orange and purple flower. The white upward facing flower- the seat of infinity, fans out long pointed fossilized leaves.
The two base layers are done in acrylic paints.
What creates the mysterious veil that finishes the painting is done in oils.

It introduces 7 energy wheels in the magically interwoven net of NADIS= energy channels within our astral body (subtle body of the physical form). It's physical counterpart is the circulatory and nervous system.
The white straight line through the center of the painting represents the main Nadi path, SUSHUMNA. Its counterpart in the physical body is the spine.
The lit intertwined lines symbolize another two major nadis Ida and Pingala.
Ida=the feminine, cold aspect of the moon, shady side of a mountain
and
Pingala=the masculine, warm aspect of the sun, the sunny side of a mountain.

They run from the red root chakra up to the purple Ajna chakra where they exit through the nostrils. On this painting I pictured the endings of the nadis as two spirals above the crown flower.
Ida and Pingala are time-bound and end at the third eye center.
However, a yogi moves beyond the time line of duality and Maya-illusion and enters the state of non-dual consciousness in the main Sushumna passage.

Why do we burn sage and other herbs? Elders have burned these sacred herbs for centuries in order to clear and consecrate their space. MONDAY'S ORACLE CARD: DREAMTIME/CREATION

This week's Oracle card is Dreamtime / Creation from Steven D. Farmer's 'Earth Magic'.

For the Aborigines of Australia, the dreamtime is a place before time and outside of time in which ancestral spirit beings came to Earth and gave all of Life its form.

Once the work was done, these spirits remained in the very forms they created — including the animals, hills, stars, and other features of the land — and continue to be present today.

The dreamtime is an individual’s or group’s spiritual template, including songs and stories that have been handed down for at least 60,000 years — although Aborigines would say that they’ve existed sine the beginning of time.

In one such tradition, there’s a creation story involving the didgeridoo, which is essentially a hollowed-out log that emits a droning sound when played.

In this card, we see that as Spirit Man plays the didgeridoo, the world is sung into existence.

Note the various beings and colors and structures of the land that are being created, all carrying Spirit that has been breathed into them.

Close your eyes, tune in to your breathing, and allow yourself to sink deeply into the heart of the living creation that you are.

FEATURE No. 1: MORNING DOVE aka HELENA NELSON-REED

I know I said I'd wait until the blue moon to start this off but I'm so excited by the interest in this new project AND also by this artist that I want to do this NOW.  Shall we just get on with it?

This beautiful piece of jewelry is ideal for the first feature as it encompasses the essence of Boutique of Spirit perfectly - the torque is from the ancient Khond tribe of Orissa, in Northern India...

This design is simple and sophisticated, showing off the beauty of form and materials.

An unconventional neck piece, intended to be worn with the open space to one side. Slide it onto the neck in the same manner as sliding on a metal cuff bracelet. If you'd like, I will provide a photo of it on my neck so you can see how it will look on a living body.

The open space can also be at the back of the neck, as torques are usually worn, with the chains dangling down the back, or over the shoulders, in front, but I prefer this look. Because of the way the torque is designed, and the oval shape, it wont slip off. I like the combination of flexible, moving chain suspended from the solid torque, and the unexpected occasional deep red spark flashing from the garnet atop the cabochon.

The color is most accurate, on my monitor, in the photos with the light beige and stones background.

The pendant is a beautiful cab of ocean picture jasper, mounted in sterling silver that has been given a smokey patina. A faceted garnet adorns the crown. This pendant was designed, created and signed by Illinois artisan and lapidary expert Pauette Wasserman. Stamped.925 , a good sized pendant.

The hand forged torque itself is a very old vintage piece from the Khond tribe of Orissa, India and was worn by tribal women when attending weddings on the steep hillsides - to ward off lightening strikes! At one time brass rings were strung on it, but I prefer the simple, artisan made, forged nature of the unadorned metal and removed them so it could be shown off to advantage. If you appreciate the esoteric, minimalist, and wabi - sabi genre of art, you'll understand what I'm attempting to convey. Its the spirit of the forged piece I admire so much.

The rollo chain is thick brass on copper.with a baked on patina buffed just enough to bring out the warm tones beneath the matte black finish. The chain has been sealed to maintain the color and prevent anything rubbing off on white clothing.

Pendant measures 1.25 x 2.5" at widest points
Torque measures 5.25 x 7" at widest pints, with a 3 inch gap

My neck measures 14" around near the base and the torque slides on and off easily when taken off sideways. To wear the gap at the back requires gently opening the torque just a bit and slipping it around the neck. Because this is a very old torque its probably better to simply slip it off and on, and not bend it repeatedly, inflicting stress on the same points and possibly weakening the metal.

!!!!!!Please check the dimensions of this necklace on your own body, photographs can sometimes cause items to appear larger or smaller than they really are, depending on one's frame of reference.

NEW MOON - NEW INTENT

Today is a new moon.
The new moon is the time for new beginnings, right?
So I'm working away...
I hope to have it all in place in time for the full moon on August 31.

THE IDEA

The idea for this project came from my Etsy favorites list.  I love browsing Etsy and adding all the things I admire to my list.

I have often wanted to do more with the list to promote all these wonderful things.  Being the creative type myself, I can appreciate the time energy and love that goes into the creativity process.

My hope is that Boutique of Spirit will provide a window to showcase items that are handmade, creative and full of love and spirit.  In short - stuff you cannot get at Walmart!


I am working behind the scenes to get it all set up.  I will be back from time to time with more updates and details of how I visualize this to work.
